Volunteers who work with HERO perform a variety of tasks. Painting, cleaning, framing and roofing are all common assignments for volunteers. If you have a special skill to share, please let us know so a plan can be made to put your skill to use! No construction experience is needed to volunteer with HERO. Contact us to find out more about the many opportunities available for volunteers.
Usually all volunteers stay in our bunkhouse, a two-story living quarters with bunks, two bathrooms, and a full kitchen. HERO asks for a $5 per night donation per guest to cover the cost of utilities and maintenance.
Volunteers should wear clothes that they don't mind getting dirty and closed toed, hard soled shoes. There are two grocery stores and a handful of restaurants within walking distance from HERO. Much of Greensboro can be covered by foot, but alternate forms of transportation, like a bike or skateboard, is also a great way to get around.
